Historic town clock restored in Manitou Springs

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – The city of Manitou Springs is giving a much-needed restoration to a local beloved historic landmark.

Originally donated by Jerome Wheeler in 1889, The Wheeler Town Clock has been restored to its original state, in an effort from the Public Works Department of Manitou Springs.

It's also seen a facelift, the town says – it’s been updated with an atomic clock to ensure reliable and precise timekeeping. Additionally, the water features of the clock have been restored, enhancing the clock's historical charm and functionality.

Located on Manitou Avenue near Otoe Place, the clock is fully green and is crowned with a statue of Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth and vitality, to represent the healing properties Manitou Springs' mineral water is known for.

According to the Society of Architectural Historians, the clock was originally gifted to the city to commemorate the completion of the now-razed Manitou Mineral Water Bottling Company.
