COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Three structures were left a total loss after a fire that broke out Friday morning in northern Colorado Springs.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), their call for service was for a fire located at 817 W Jefferson St. just off of I-25. which they arrived to shortly after 11 a.m.

The fire pumped out massive plumes of black smoke, which could be seen from different parts of the city, and along I-25.

CSFD called in a second alarm, bringing 24 units and over 70 firefighters on scene Friday to fight the blaze into the afternoon.

"Obviously that fire spread very quickly, and there was the imminent [threat] of collapse. So we got all of our crews out as quick as possible, and then we went to a defensive attack. So we used our aerial trucks to get water up and on to that fire." explained Ashley Franco, a spokesperson with CSFD.

Neighbors could only watch the blaze grow, as many of the homes are in close proximity to one another.

"The flames were insane. Like the structure that's on fire, I think it's a garage I'm not sure, but there's a six foot fence in front of it. And the flames were like several feet over the top of that fence." explained Nicole Renaud who lives just several houses down from the property where the fire broke out.

The windy conditions causing concern.

"My heart is racing. I'm like, 'Oh my God, please don't burn my house', because the wind here is nasty. With the Waldo Canyon fire, I mean, it can just blow it so fast. It's so scary." said Renaud.

The department also said the fire had partially spread to brush behind the home, and several brush trucks were ordered as a result. With a red flag warning in place for the day, the CSFD was concerned about the open space behind the property catching fire as well.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., CSFD announced the fire was under control. Three structures were deemed a total loss: the home, a shed which were a part of one property, and an outbuilding, which was on a neighboring property.

No injuries were reported, however two people will be displaced.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
