Cheyenne Mountain High School teacher charged with sexual assault of a minor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported Friday that a teacher at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs has been arrested and charged with multiple charges related to the sexual assault of a minor.

According to CSPD, an investigation was initiated on Dec. 15, 2023, into a report of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust involving 48-year-old Marco Antonio Lara.

Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 said Lara is a math teacher at the school and is now on administrative leave. He was arrested on Dec. 28.

According to the district, Lara began working at the school as an intermittent substitute teacher during the 2021-2022 school year. He then became a full-time math teacher in August of 2022.

CSPD said Lara has been charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and aggravated incest. The department also said it believes there may be multiple victims.

The district says that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement, and taking appropriate steps considering this circumstance. Moreover, they say background checks are required for all employees as part of the hiring process. The district does not hire individuals with criminal offenses against children.
