Neighbors react to mother wanted for allegedly killing her two children in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is asking for the public's assistance locating a 35-year-old-mother accused of killing two of her children and injuring another at the Palomino Ranch Condos in North East Colorado Springs.

KRDO13 spoke with neighbors at the complex who said it's heartbreaking to hear that two children had died where they live.

"It's gut wrenching. It's atrocious to hear that something would happen like that, especially to two young children, you know, [I just the other day,] I saw them playing outside in the snow," said Allison Waltman, neighbor in the area.

Waltman has lived at the Palomino Ranch Condos for the past five years. She and others we spoke to tell us it's typically a pretty quiet and safe area.

"The closest thing I would say is, are mailboxes being broken into, but, yeah, nothing this shocking or huge," said Jeff Maughan, neighbor in the area.

Which is why Waltman was taken aback when she returned home from work last week to discover that the complex had become a major crime scene.

The CSI vehicle was still here, and when they were taking out the bodies it was really, really sad to see how small they were and just how fragile and petite and they were just being pulled out of the house," said Waltman.

In the early morning hours of Dec. 19, Colorado Springs Police received a 9-1-1 call for a burglary on Palomino Ranch Point. When they arrived, they found a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy dead inside their apartment. They also found Kimberlee Singler and her 11-year-old daughter injured, requiring a trip to the hospital.

But the farther detectives got into their investigation, they came to believe there was never any burglar. Now, they're looking high and low for Singler, who now stands accused of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, child abuse and assault.

"I work with kids. so, you know, just seeing the pure innocence that kids have and then thinking that someone that they trusted to care for them and someone that they trusted to take care of them and to love them and to cherish and especially, you know, so close to Christmas, i mean, it's it's saddening and it's it's horrible," said Waltman.

Police did not elaborate on the 11 year old girl Thursday except to say that she is doing okay and is being taken care of.As for Kimberlee Singler, she was last seen on Saturday Dec.23. Singler's current whereabouts are unknown.

If you know anything about her whereabouts you're urged to contact Colorado Springs Police immediately.
