Suspected DUI driver hits multiple First Responder in Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- According to our Denver news partners, two police and two firefighters were hit by a driver suspected to be under the influence when the incident occurred Thursday night, December 7, 2023.

The Commerce City Police Department said the officers and South Adams County firefighters were at the scene of another crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 76 near Sable Boulevard when they were hit.

Police said the suspected DUI driver drove around the officer's barricades before crashing into the scene.

The officers and firefighters were all taken to local hospitals. The police department said both of their officers are expected to be OK, but the firefighters' status is unclear at this time.

The driver in this incident is now in custody.
