National Forest Service to start prescribed burns across Colorado

KRDO

COLORADO (KRDO) -- The National Forest Service will begin a series of prescribed burns across Colorado, including the Pikes Peak region starting December, 2023.

These burns will continue until the Spring of 2025 and are meant to reduce excess wood debris found on the floor of the forest.

Rampart Range, Monument Fire Center, North Divide and Forest Road 331 will be areas that prescribed burns will place and officials say they will only start burns in areas where smoke can be managed.

Residents in those areas will likely be able to see smoke for several days or weeks. You can follow the Pike-San Isabel Forests on social media for updates on specific burns.
