Shelter-in-place lifted following barricaded suspect in a reported stolen vehicle on San Miguel St. and Hancock Ave.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A shelter-in-place is now lifted, and a suspect is in custody after they barricaded themselves in a vehicle on San Miguel St. and Hancock Ave in what led to a three-hour standoff.

Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a call for a motor vehicle theft at 4 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, when neighbors woke up to car break-ins.

When officers arrived, they figured out the suspect had broken into a car and barricaded himself inside.

Officers tried to apprehend the suspect, but he refused to comply and began to threaten himself and the officers.

Those threats forced the shelter-in-place order, which lasted about two hours. However, that order has since been lifted.

Christy Martinez, a resident, is one of many who woke up from all of the commotion, and she says it was a major concern for her family's safety.

"Being a single parent, I've learned to be vigilant. Like making sure doors are locked and being aware of my surroundings and what's going on," said Martinez.

Police were able to get him out of the car and arrest him.

The Colorado Springs Police Department says the suspect had a felony warrant and four misdemeanor warrants for his arrest before this morning's incident.

Police have not released his identity.
