Bomb threat prompts evacuations at two southern Colorado high schools
FREMONT, Colo. (KRDO) - Fremont Re-2 School District posted on Facebook that as a precautionary measure, they are evacuating the Florence Jr/Sr high school (FHS).
The district says that the Florence Police Department notified the district of a situation at Canon City High School, that is trickling over to Florence Jr/Sr High School.
According to the district, law enforcement cleared and searched the school; no hazardous materials were found. Students are returning to class. All activities will resume as normally scheduled.
People are asked to not go to the school. The Florence Police Department is asking parents to go to Pioneer Park to pick up their children.
Canon City Schools Fremont RE-1 posted that his morning law enforcement received notification from the Colorado Crisis Hotline of a potential threat at Cañon City High School (CCHS). Out of an abundance of caution, they immediately initiated an evacuation procedure to safely and calmly move all students and staff outside the building while law enforcement cleared and searched the premises.
The district says that law enforcement completed a comprehensive sweep and did not find any dangerous or suspicious materials on school grounds.
The Canon City Police Department (CCPD) says that a bomb threat came into a Denver-based crisis call center. That call threatened CCHS. CCPD says that during the investigation, the location of the threat was changed to FHS. CCPD says that they found the threat to be not credible but, officers searched both schools. Detectives will be working to determine who the caller was.
