Chaffee County shelter-in-place order lifted following search for suspect out of Custer County

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO)-- The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office has lifted the shelter-in-place order for people south of Highway 50 between the Fremont County Line and Poncha Springs. They say that after a vigilant search by land and air, they believe the suspect has likely left the area.

Residents in Chaffee County are under a shelter-in-place order following a dangerous suspect on the loose out of Custer County. 

The Chafee County Sheriff’s Office issued the shelter-in-place just before 9 p.m. on November 20, stating law enforcement would be searching for an “armed and dangerous suspect.”

The suspect in question is 45-year-old Hanme K. Clark who authorities say killed three people and severely injured another person. 

The incident happened on the afternoon of November 20, after residents in Custer County–just northeast of Westcliffe– were told to “lock down and shelter in place.” Since 8 p.m. on Monday, that shelter-in-place order has now been lifted.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) told KRDO that they believed the situation involved a neighbor dispute where shots were fired. 

During a press briefing, the CCSO said they spent the majority of the day in a standoff with Clark who somehow slipped through the heavy law enforcement presence around the area. 

He remains at large. 

Clark is driving a white 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck with a camper shell and Colorado license plate issued to BHLK27. 

He is 6’3, 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. 

Residents in the Chaffee County area are advised to lock all doors and windows and stay inside.
