COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Thursday, a Community Parole Officer made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Police Department began searching for a man accused of hitting two parole officers in Colorado Springs, just west of I-25, near N. Spruce St. and W. Bijou St.

A Blue Alert was activated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for the suspect, 41-year-old Justin Kula. He was eventually caught and taken into custody.

Since then, multiple law agencies across Colorado have released statements and sent their condolences to the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Below are some of the statements:

"With a heavy heart, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office joins all of Colorado in mourning the fallen Colorado Division of Adult Parole Officer's tragic, senseless death. Our prayers are with the Officer’s family and with the second Officer who was injured during the incident, as well.

“Members of law enforcement bravely run toward the danger and make unbelievable sacrifices so we can live in a safer world. As a law enforcement family, we mourn this loss and offer our prayers and unconditional support as they navigate through this unthinkable situation.”
