Aurora Police Department warns of card skimming scams
AURORA, Colo. (KRDO)-- The Aurora Police Department's (APD) Economic Crimes Unit (ECU) is warning the public of a scam involving contactless payment processes at gas stations.
According to the APD, scammers are drilling holes in contactless payment screens and damaging the contactless option, forcing customers to swipe their card for payment.
They added that thieves are placing skimming devices on these damaged machines and stealing card information.
If you notice a hole drilled into a contactless payment screen, the APD is asking customers to notify gas station employees.
The pumps should be shut down and inspected for a skimmer and officers from the APD's ECU will come out and inspect these pumps if they believe someone has tampered with it.
