Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region rescues newborn kittens from under a shed
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- It was a wild ride for staff at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), as their efforts to rescue one lost kitten turned into a rescue of five kittens.
According to the HSPPR, in early July, a cat accidentally got loose in their parking lot and for over a month, the HSPPR team has been trying to recapture her.
Sometime in the week of Aug. 21, they were finally successful in their efforts and were able to bring the kitten in, but it didn’t end there.
Two volunteer dog walkers for the HSPPR were out on a walk, when one of the dogs made a sharp right turn toward the organization’s shed. That’s when the volunteers stated they heard tiny meows coming from under the shed.
That’s when officials with the HSPPR learned their lost kitten was a momma who had babies on their property.
The two alerted staff and employees to come help and two kittens were rescued right away. A third kitten was also found taking a little snooze as it was pulled from the shed.
After a full sweep of the premises, staff with the HSPPR brought the three inside, and reunited them with their mom.
But the story still doesn’t end here.
The next morning, the team did another sweep of the premises when they heard more cries for help. A fourth kitten was hiding so far out of reach, staff with the HSPPR had to start destroying the floor.
After several holes were dug, staff were able to rescue the final baby.
Now the family is complete at last, and both the mom and her baby kittens are being cared for.
