Colorado Springs Police arrest man accused of strangling victim after standoff

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Police Department arrested a man accused of strangling a female victim with four children present.
Around 6:40 p.m. on July 27, officers responded to a reported domestic violence strangulation in the 3600 block of Suncrest Court. At the scene, police found the suspect and a female victim - whose age hasn't been released -and four children.
According to CSPD, the woman had been strangled. Officers managed to get the victim and three children out of the home safely. However, the man and one child refused to leave.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and an arrest warrant for the suspect, 43-year-old Jesus Velasquez. The Tactical Enforcement Unit was then called out.
Around 1:40 a.m. on July 28, CSPD said a negotiator speaking to Velasquez convinced him to surrender himself peacefully and he was taken into custody.
Velasquez was taken to the Criminal Justice Center on charges of domestic violence related 2nd Degree Assault and other charges.
