‘Day on the Range’ gives children a taste of Western life

Latigo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- The Pikes Peak Range Riders Foundation is giving kids from the Boys and Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region a taste of Western life with a ‘Day on the Range.’

Children ages 6-12 will be able to experience what it's like to be cowgirls and cowboys for the day at the Latigo Trails Equestrian Center on Tuesday, July 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It’s a chance for kids to get out of the city, into cowboy gear, and learn about the Western lifestyle.

Pikes Peak Range Riders will gather to bring horses, cattle, and other animals for the children to learn about “The Cowboy Way”—and for some kids, this will be their very first time and experience.

There will be nine rotating stations for hands-on learning activities. They’ll include cowboy history, cattle, branding, horseback riding, horse/mule packing, country western music, sheep herding, and a kid-friendly petting zoo.

Representatives with the Pikes Peak Rangerettes, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol, and the Ft. Carson Mounted Color Guard will be featured guests at the event.
