Miscommunication leads to Colorado Springs sandwich shop taking orders when closed

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Miscommunication at a local sandwich shop led to customers placing orders online at the store Wednesday after it closed for the day.

It happened at the Jersey Mike's Subs restaurant on Garden of the Gods Road, on the west side of town.
A customer told KRDO that she placed an online order Wednesday night; when she arrived at the store, however, she and other customers found no one at the business.

She claims that the lights were off, no employees or managers were on duty and the doors were unlocked - leaving the store unsecured.
The customer said that she and others entered the store to ensure that no one was hurt or needed help, and took photos confirming that the business was abandoned.
"Customers have been working together to keep the store secured," she said.

The customer explained that she contacted another Jersey Mike's store about the situation and was told that a manager was on the way.
She also said she was told by the other store that she would have to contact the Garden of the Gods location, and not the Jersey Mike's corporation, to request a refund.

KRDO spoke with the store's owner and manager Thursday; they apologized for the mixup and said that they gave refunds to some customers who didn't receive their online orders and will gladly provide refunds to anyone else affected by the situation.

The store closes at 5 p.m., and some customers said that they placed online orders after that time.
Business returned to normal at the store Wednesday, but the store in in the process of closing permanently, with Sunday being the last day of business.
