Cañon City man freed by plea deal on murder charges rearrested; Found with thousands of fentanyl pills

CAÑON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Cañon City Police Department, alongside the U.S. Marshals, arrested a wanted fugitive, accused of peddling hundreds of grams of fentanyl and possessing numerous stolen guns this week.

That man, 36-year-old Robert Broman, was out of jail after a plea deal on murder charges was offered by 11th Judicial District Attorney Linda Stanley's office. Over the last several weeks, 13 Investigates uncovered 33 separate criminal cases within Stanley's office with allegations of discovery violations in them.

In November 2021, Broman was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree murder accused in the shooting death of Christopher Erinn Robb, 41, near 1600 Locust Street.

Broman accepted an offered plea deal that dropped the murder charge to 3rd-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to one year in jail, but because of credit for time served, he was released that same day.

During a press conference Friday, Cañon City Police said they re-arrested Broman when he was found with a firearm in his possession,1,802 fentanyl-laced pills, and 13 grams of meth. In a nearby apartment, they seized 7,492 fentanyl pills, three firearms, 1.1 grams of heroin, and $5,417 in cash.

Broman now faces numerous drug-felony charges including unlawful distribution, being a special offender, and unlawful possession. He's now in jail on a $10,000 cash/surety bond.

13 Investigates asked Cañon City Police Chief John Schick if Broman's prior plea deal had an impact on him being back out on the streets in a position to be allegedly distributing drugs.

"I share your concern and certainly his presence back in this capacity on our streets is very concerning to us, which is why we responded in the collaborative style that we did to apprehend him as safely as possible," Chief Schick said. "Do I believe he belonged out on the street? Absolutely not. I think we need to put him in jail and actions speak louder than words and best predictor for future behavior is past behavior."

In addition to Broman's arrest, multiple law enforcement agencies teamed up to locate missing children, find wanted sex offenders, and arrested dangerous fugitives. Their efforts over three days helped them find 15 missing children and arrest or clear 13 warrants.

"I think Pueblo is a safer place today than it was even 72 hours ago, safer for children and safer for the public at large because of the combined efforts of all of these agencies," Pueblo County District Attorney Jeff Chostner said.

For over a month, our team has attempted to reach District Attorney Linda Stanley for comment on several different cases. She is no where to be found.
