Annual Pueblo School Empty Bowls Fundraiser benefits three nonprofits in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, the Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences is holding its 26th annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser.

For the event, students created ceramic bowls which will be filled with soups and various food donated from local restaurants in Pueblo.

Some examples include green chile, egg drop soup, and bread sticks.

All funds will benefit the Pueblo Soup Kitchen, the Pueblo Rescue Mission, and Posada of Pueblo.

As of Friday morning, 360 tickets had been sold, translating to approximately $3,600.

The fundraiser has continued for over two decades to reinforce the importance of the arts in schools, keeping the subject in students' curriculum, and making sure kids have a creative outlet.

"Not only do we want to bring out the best qualities of our students and push out their creativity through art, but we also want to give back," Steve Medina said with the Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences.

School officials say a lot of the students have been participating in the annual event since Kindergarten.

"Students have always looked forward to it," Medina said. "A lot of our art classes implement it into their curriculum and plan at the beginning of the year."

The event will be held at the Sangre De Cristo Arts Center located at 210 N Santa Fe Ave. in Pueblo.

There will be two chances to attend throughout the day Friday. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost per ticket is $10 at the door. That includes a meal, entertainment, access to a silent auction of gift baskets put together by various classes, and the guest's pick of a ceramic bowl to take home.
