Colorado Springs police investigating sex assault that occurred on popular trail
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is investigating a sex assault that occurred Thursday morning on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail.
The Pikes Peak Greenway Trail is a popular multi-use trail that runs north and south across Colorado Springs, paralleling Monument Creek along much of its journey through the city.
CSPD said the female victim was running along the trail near Uintah St. around 7:30 a.m. when she was attacked by an unknown male suspect with a knife. The suspect sexually assaulted the victim. During the assault, the victim sustained a knife wound on her arm.
Police said the suspect fled on foot and when officers arrived at the scene, they were unable to locate him.
The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old with a medium build. He is approximately 6' tall and had an unkempt beard. He was wearing a dark beanie, a dark jacket, and dark pants. The victim said the man was dirty and smelled of alcohol.
