Experts encourage you to get your car winter-ready now
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- October is AAA Car Care Month and as we head into the winter months, it's time to start thinking about getting your car ready for snow.
AAA says the biggest thing to check is your tires. In Colorado, they encourage you to have winter tires, but all-season tires that say mud + snow work well too.
You need to check the tread of your tires. There's the quarter trick you can use. If you put the quarter upside down into the tread and you can see George Washington's head it's time for new tires.
"If your tires don’t have enough air they won’t work as tires. You’re going to slide out. You’re going to get stuck or you might get in a crash. Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that make contact with the ground they’re vitally important for your safety. The indicator is there for a reason. Don’t ignore it," said Skyler McKinley, with AAA Colorado.
You should also check your battery. If your batter is more than three to five years old it's time for a new one. AAA says your wiper blades should be changed every six months.
