COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On Monday, October 24, 2022, a white Saturn was traveling westbound on Highway 160 approximately 3 miles east of Blanca, Colorado. According to Colorado State Patrol (CSP), this location is about 23 miles east of Alamosa Colorado in Costilla County.

CSP says that the driver of the sedan, a 19-year-old male, drifted off of the right side of the roadway and down a slight embankment into a dry ditch. The Saturn then continued along in the ditch and then collided with a metal culvert.

According to CSP, the driver was seriously injured and transported by a ground ambulance to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa then later flown out to Penrose Hospital.

CSP says that an unrestrained 19-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
