Top-ranked Halloween haunt in Canon City continuing to give back for 13 years
CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- One haunt in Canon City is providing some scares with care. As it is continuing to give all its proceeds to a local cause for 13 years.
For a decade, they've been among the top haunted houses in the state. In 2021, they were ranked as the number one scariest haunt in Colorado by Colorado Haunted Houses.
Aftermath operates as a fundraiser, with all proceeds benefiting recreation district programs. The money reduces what would be program fees, such as participation in youth basketball and football. They also use the money to purchase things such as helmets and other equipment.
Some of the volunteers with Aftermath have been involved for all 13 years.
"The idea is to give a great product to the community that they can enjoy while also making sure it benefits our programs," Canon City Recreation and Park District Executive Director Kyle Horne said.
The haunt is situated both inside and outside, creating a unique experience through wooded areas, around a pond, and through a haunted house. Customers begin outside to build anticipation as they make their way into the house.
Aftermath owns the land and house, so it stays up year-round.
"The only purpose we have with this house is the haunted house," Horne said. "It's unique and we take advantage of the natural setting. So focusing on the outdoors as well as the in, we think makes it a unique haunted house that a lot of other places can't experience."
The haunt operates on Saturdays and tickets are sold on site from 7 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. They are $20 or $40 for fastpass to skip the line. It is located at 575 Ash St. in Canon City.
