Former Pueblo County Sheriff, Kirk Taylor sworn in as U.S. Marshal for Colorado

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Former Pueblo County Sheriff, Kirk M. Taylor, was sworn in Thursday as the 31st United State Marshal for the District of Colorado.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Taylor was nominated by President Biden on June 6, 2022, and confirmed by the United States Senate on September 29, 2022. As the U.S. Marshal for the District of Colorado, Marshal Taylor is the 31st U.S. Marshal going back to the creation of the Colorado Territory on February 28, 1861.
The U.S. Marshals Service is the first federal law enforcement agency in the United States, created with the passage of the Judiciary Act on September 24, 1789. The agency is responsible for protecting the federal judiciary, apprehending federal fugitives, managing and selling seized assets acquired by criminals through illegal activities, housing and transporting federal prisoners, and operating the Witness Security Program.
Marshall Taylor served as the Sheriff of Pueblo County for the past 16 years. During that time, he was appointed to the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board in 2009 and served three terms. He also served as the Chairman of the Legislative Committee for the County Sheriffs of Colorado and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. Marshal Taylor is a veteran of the United States Navy and began his law enforcement career with the Alamosa Police Department in August 1987.
