Victim of Monday night homicide on 19th street identified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Coroner has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Monday, Oct. 10 on 19th St. in Colorado Springs.

On Monday, Colorado Springs police officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 900 block of 19th St. They found a male victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

The coroner has now identified that man as 19-year-old Demitir Crockett of Colorado Springs.

This was one of three homicides police investigated Monday night that forced the department to go on accident alert status for the city.

The investigation into Crockett's death is still active and anyone with information or who witnessed the crime is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000. Police said Crockett's death is the 38th homicide investigation in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 30.
