Family of murdered Colorado Springs 19-year-old remembers him, question motive of teen suspect
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The grandmother of a 19-year-old who was shot and killed in September is remembering him as a loving grandson who helped take care of her.
Wednesday, Trevor Branson's grandmother described the day she lost her grandson. It was Sunday, Sept. 18 when Shirley Alford got the call from the Colorado Springs Police Department saying there had been a shooting at her home on Gunshot Pass Dr.
When she got there, Alford said her entire street was blocked off and she wasn't able to get near her home. Eventually, she got the devastating news that her 19-year-old grandson was shot in the living room and did not survive.
While his murder is still under investigation, Tuesday, CSPD said a juvenile had been arrested in connection to Branson's death.
Now, ahead of his funeral, his grandmother explained that Branson was a teddy bear.
"He is very much missed. He stayed here with me, you know. You know, I miss him coming and saying, ‘Nana, what's for dinner?’ You know, that was his favorite phrase he would use with me,” Alford said.
She and Branson's mother say they're both struggling with their health, and that he was always taking care of them. He also helped around the house while he looked for a job.
They both told KRDO that his death is a complete shock.
According to Alford, he stayed out of trouble. She explained to KRDO that they know the teen boy who was charged with his murder, but she can't understand why he would do this.
The suspect faces first-degree murder charges. Because he is underage, CSPD said they won't be providing any additional information at this time.
