Colorado Avs take on Chicago Blackhawks as Stanley Cup champions for season opener

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Avalanche take to the ice for their first game of the season following a championship season.

Wednesday night, the Avs hope to continue the winning streak as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks at Ball Arena in Denver.

Even with most of the team back from last season, there are still questions regarding the team's new goalie and who will step in to fill Nazem Kadri's shoes.

Ahead of the game, the Avs will add another banner to the Ball Arena rafters, cementing their place in hockey history.

Wednesday's match is the first of an 82-game season.

The puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
