COLORADO (KRDO) -- As Halloween is quickly approaching and Christmas will be here before we know it, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is asking Coloradans to keep antlers in mind when decorating for the holidays.

This time of year, deer and elk have shed their velvet and are mostly done growing their antlers. Bucks and bulls now have large, sharp antlers that are great for fighting and protection but can also easily get stuck in things like string lights and holiday decorations.

For this reason, CPW asks Coloradans each year to keep antlers in mind when planning their holiday decorations. The agency advises against doing things like stringing lights, tinsel, or cobwebs between trees and structures in your yard.

These types of decorations can get easily tangled in antlers and blind deer to dangers like traffic and also prevent them from eating and drinking.
