Reports of firearm at Harrison High School unfounded

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department responded to Harrison High School Friday to investigate a report of a weapon being displayed.

After investigating, police said there was no threat to the student body and no weapon was recovered by officers.

“Surveillance video has been reviewed and the area where the firearm was supposedly displayed outside of the restrooms showed conclusively there was never a firearm displayed or shown," Lt. Pamela Castro with Colorado Springs Police Department told 13 Investigates. "Officers have not recovered any firearm and at this time we believe there was no firearm inside Harrison High School.”

Police said the confusion began with a planned fight between two groups of students. As the fight moved towards the restroom, two female students yelled "gun."

“Somebody yelled that there was a gun and it just spread throughout all of the students," Castro said.

Harrison High School was never placed on lock down and students were never told to leave the school.

School District 2 sent out an email to parents about the incident stating the incident was unverified, while students and staff were staff.

Despite this dozens of parents lined up outside the front doors of Harrison High School on Friday to take their kid out of class early. Police say the early pickups occurred after students texted their parents about the alleged gun or parents heard about the incident on social media.

Colorado Springs Police has initiated an investigation for interference with school and staff, but no arrests have ben made at this time. 13 Investigates has learned that criminal charges area a possibility, but that depends on the intent of the student that yelled out "gun."
