Grass fire along I-25 extinguished, man arrested on suspicion of starting fires

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Emergency crews responded to a grass fire along I-25 Thursday afternoon.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) said the fire was near mile marker 121, south of Fountain.

The Fountain Fire Department responded to the scene and was able to extinguish the fire.

A KRDO crew that responded to the scene learned from the Sheriff's Office that a driver spotted a suspicious man walking along the highway allegedly attempting to start fires. This man was contacted and arrested.

EPSO identified the suspect as John Leavins. He has been booked into the El Paso County Jail for the charge of 4th Degree Arson.
