Douglas County deputy hit by suspected DUI driver
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) deputy who was parked in his patrol vehicle was hit by a suspected drunk driver Monday night.
According to the DCSO, the deputy was parked with his emergency lights on in his department-issued Tahoe on the shoulder of Lincoln Ave. while waiting for a tow truck to take a vehicle he had impounded.
As the deputy sat waiting for the tow truck, a Chevy 3500 pickup truck, driven by a Parker man, crashed into the rear of the Tahoe and pushed it into lanes of traffic. The deputy sustained minor injuries but was still able to get the driver out of the truck and off the road.
Both the deputy and the driver of the truck were taken to a local hospital as a precaution. The driver of the truck was issued a summons for careless driving resulting in injury, DUI, failure to provide insurance, and open container.
