Suspect in multiple Colorado Springs bank robberies arrested after multi-year investigation
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A multi-year bank robbery investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has culminated with an arrest.
According to CSPD, four banks in the Colorado Springs area were robbed between Oct. 2020 and Dec. 2020 by the same male suspect. During each of the robberies, the suspect threatened to injure, kill, or shoot the victims, although weapons were never seen, and no victims were injured.
The four robberies were as follows:
10/15/2020 - ENT Credit Union - 3125 Jet Wing Drive
10/26/2020 - TCF Bank - 4330 N. Academy Boulevard
11/17/2020 - Key Bank - 5725 North Academy Boulevard
12/28/2020 - Chase Bank - 4190 Austin Bluffs Parkway
On Sept. 8, 2022, the Huntington Bank located at 4330 North Academy Boulevard was robbed by a male suspect under similar circumstances as the 2020 robberies, according to CSPD.
Detectives were able to gather additional evidence and determined the same suspect committed all five robberies. CSPD said that after a "comprehensive investigation," an arrest warrant was obtained for 30-year-old Colorado Springs man, Lorenzo Herrera.
On Sept. 22, Herrera was located and taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with four counts of aggravated robbery and one count of attempted aggravated robbery.
