Driver of a fatal motorcycle crash identified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On August 22, 2022, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a traffic accident where a motorcycle collided with a van at the intersection of E Platte and N Murray Blvd.

CSPD investigation revealed that the van was making a left-hand turn and struck the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected.

The motorcycle driver was transported with life-threatening injuries after receiving medical care at the scene.

According to CSPD, the motorcycle driver died on Sept. 15, 2022, as a result of their injuries.

The El Paso County Coroner identified the driver as 19-year-old Kristoff Martinez-Olvera.

CSPD says that this is the 40th fatal traffic crash this year, 17 involving motorcycles.

CSPD believes that the motorcycle's speed was a contributing factor in the crash and no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
