Families of murder victims hold memorial to honor their loved ones on National Day of Remembrance

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Law enforcement and families and friends of murder victims, all gathered Sunday night to remember the lives of those lost to homicide.

The annual memorial, hosted by Mothers of Murdered Youth (MOMY), took place at Life Church of Colorado Springs in connection with the National Day of Remembrance for murder victims. At the event, the families were welcomed to take the podium to share about their personal experiences.

"We have to stand up and say, enough is enough," said Jennifer Romero, founder of MOMY. "We can no longer stand for this. We have to fight."

Romero says there's more to the organization than only remembering those who are lost.

As a nonprofit, MOMY advocates for criminal justice while celebrating the lives that murder victims lived.

"We're here to remember them and to love them and to publicly tell everybody, 'Hey, remember?' We remember,” said Romero.

The District Attorney's Office, Colorado Springs Police Department, and El Paso County Sheriff's Office all had officers in attendance that made a commitment to the families to push for justice.
