COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On Wednesday, Sept. 14, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was able to arrest an individual who had been on a weeks-long crime spree and was known to the department as a "prolific offender."

According to CSPD, the individual, identified as 30-year-old Yerandy Hernandez, had committed several burglaries and numerous vehicle thefts over several weeks leading up to his arrest. At this time he was also out on bond for motor vehicle theft.

Police said Hernandez had obtained a firearm during the burglaries as well as a tow trailer to help steal vehicles. He began focusing on newer, high-priced vehicles and eluded police on multiple occasions while in stolen vehicles.

On Sept. 14, police were able to locate Hernandez on N. Academy Blvd. in a stolen vehicle. When he was contacted, he attempted to ram a police vehicle to escape but was pinned in place by multiple other police vehicles. Officers broke a window and physically removed him from the vehicle before taking him into custody.

Hernandez was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on multiple charges.
