Pueblo artists celebrate completed murals and sculptures on the Arkansas Levee

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO)--Thursday, some artists and community members came out to see the newly completed murals and sculptures on the Pueblo Arkansas Levee, including a mural to honor journalist, author, and playwright Damon Runyon.

One of the artists on the levee, Ryan Yanke, has waited 20 years to paint here. He said his dream had come true.

He has worked on this mural for 2 months.

"For a while, it's just grueling, just until it started really coming alive," Yanke said.

Cynthia Ramu said the Damon Runyon dedication mural shows the history of the Damon Runyon days. She says it recognizes him and recognizes the other artist and also the new sculptures going on the top of the wall.

According to Ramu, this is only the beginning of the historic section of the levee. She said there are another 20 historic murals left to be painted.

Ramu hopes more people will come out and admire the artwork.

"It adds beauty and voice and history about our community and Southern Colorado," said Ramu.
