PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The City of Pueblo is inviting the community to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Mineral Place park pickleball courts on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

In March, Pueblo City Council approved funding for the construction of eight pickleball courts at Mineral Palace Park. The city said the demand for pickleball has been growing in the city, with many residents using the tennis courts at Pueblo City Park to play the game.

The pickleball course will be located at the north end of Mineral Palace Park where the tennis courts used to be. The city said future improvements to the site may include shade shelters, lights for individuals to play in the evening, benches, and the potential of four additional courts.

The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Sept. 20. Attendees can stick around after the ceremony to see a doubles match between Pueblo Mayor, Nick Gradisar and City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation’s Director Steven Meier, who will each be paired with a member of the Pueblo County Pickleball Association.

Mineral Palace Park is located at 151 E. 19th Street in Pueblo.
