Bowhunter injured by moose in Larimer County

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A bowhunter was airlifted out of a remote area of Larimer County on Tuesday after he was injured by a moose.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said the moose attacked and injured the hunter after he made an errant shot.

According to our news partners in Denver, rescue crews received a distress signal from the hunter's GPS around noon on Tuesday. The signal came from a remote area off Long Draw Road and Highway 14, in the Poudre Canyon area.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the emergency response was escalated when crews learned the moose had contacted the hunter and caused serious injuries.

The injured hunter was airlifted out of the area and taken to the hospital. His current condition is unknown at this time.
