State Patrol investigating crash involving Colorado Springs man and Saguache County deputy
SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol reports they are investigating a crash in Saguache County involving a Colorado Springs man and a Saguache County sheriff's deputy.
The crash happened Thursday afternoon on County Road U60, near the town of Moffat.
On Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's deputy was traveling east on U60 with emergency lights and sirens on. A second vehicle, driven by Erik Martinez of Colorado Springs, was also traveling east on U60, in front of the deputy, State Patrol said.
According to State Patrol, Martinez's vehicle slowed down as the deputy approached from behind. The deputy moved into the left lane to pass, but at the same time, Martinez turned left and the vehicles collided. Martinez's vehicle partially rolled and ended up on its top. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
Both Martinez and the deputy were transported to the Alamosa Hospital for injuries.
State Patrol said the deputy was treated for minor injuries. Martinez sustained life-threatening injuries but refused the doctor's order for ICU treatment and left the hospital.
