1 person killed in overnight shooting in east Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is investigating a shooting that left one person dead Friday morning on the east side of town.

Officers were called to the 2100 block of Academy Pl., around 2 a.m. Friday. The scene is located near N. Academy Blvd. and Maizeland Rd. When they arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Colorado Springs Police believe a fight led up to the shooting. Officers have identified a suspect, but they are not in custody at this time. Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to call Colorado Springs Police.
