Bank of Colorado hosts Burger Bash to benefit Pikes Peak United Way
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO) -- Wednesday, the Bank of Colorado hosted its Burger Bash to benefit Pikes Peak United Way. For its second year, the event included free food provided by In-N-Out Burger, an on-site DJ, dances, and other fun activities.
"You know for us as a community bank having the opportunity to bring people together, let's do an event where we could share a meal, highlight a great non-profit downtown, and let's have some fun before summer ends," added Dan Nordberg, Market President for Bank of Colorado.
"In the non-profit community being able to serve our community for 100 years is pretty special," added Elizabeth Quevedo with Pikes Peak United Way.
Organizers of the non-profit say they rely on these types of donations to continue serving the community.
"We have a lot of projects going on, we are opening a family success center in Southeast Colorado Springs where we are bringing non-profits together who are providing services for the community so we always need to raise money and raise awareness," added Quevedo.
Fountain City Councilwoman, Detra Duncan, believes results from events like these are reflected in the underserved communities.
"We have a lot of families that are not able to provide and are going through a rough time and are not able to provide food for their families. Some are living on a fixed income, and Pikes Peak United is helping out with the extra and not having to sacrifice what they want for their food and what they want to provide for their family," said Duncan.
Last year, the non-profit raised $5,000.
