Popular trail reopens in Garden of the Gods Park

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A popular trail in Garden of the Gods Park that was closed for eight months has now reopened to the public.

The Foothills Trail had been rerouted to allow for the construction of a new roundabout at the park entrance, a new sewer system, and a trail underpass.

Along with the Foothills Trail, a new multi-use underpass opened this week beneath Gateway Road. The new connection will allow bikes and pedestrians to cross under the road without having to negotiate vehicle traffic.

According to the City of Colorado Springs, the construction at the entrance of the park, dubbed the 30th Street Corridor Project, addresses a lack of roadway shoulders and drainage facilities, aging street pavement with adjacent hillside erosion, a lack of multi-use roadway facilities, safety and mobility at intersections, and access for emergency vehicles and evacuation.

The project is anticipated to be complete in mid-2023, depending on weather conditions.

For more information on the project, visit ColoradoSprings.gov/30thStreet.
