Man sentenced in 1981 murder of Cherry Hills Village woman

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. (KRDO) -- 41 years after her death, the family of Sylvia Quayle finally has justice for her death.

Quayle was found dead in 1981 and her case went unsolved until 2021.

In 2020, investigators matched a DNA sample from the crime scene to a DNA sample from a soda can that Dave Anderson had been drinking from. He was arrested in Nebraska in Feb. 2021.

18th Judicial District

Anderson's case originally went to trial in March, but the judge declared a mistrial when the jury was unable to reach a verdict. At a new trial in June, he was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Quayle.

Anderson was given a life sentence but will be eligible for parole after 20 years. This ruling is due to sentencing guidelines that were in place in 1981 when the crime was committed.
