Pueblo mom sues Facebook, alleges harm to 13-year-old daughter

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Pueblo mother is suing Facebook, claiming that her daughter's addiction to the social media site had caused serious mental and physical health problems.

According to our news partners at the Pueblo Chieftain, Ceclia Tesch filed a lawsuit that claims her daughter has suffered from sleep deprivation, body dysmorphia, an eating disorder, and other illnesses due to her addiction to Facebook.

The suit also alleges that teenagers are particularly vulnerable to the perils of excess social media use. Neither Tesch nor her daughter were “aware of the clinically addicting and mental harmful effects of Facebook,” according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit is seeking damages to “compensate the plaintiff for injuries,” as well as medical monitoring costs, attorney fees, expert fees and cost of litigation.

The case is set for a scheduling conference on Sept. 26.
