Road closures to begin Aug. 1 between Pikes Peak Ave. and Colorado Ave.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- According to the city of Colorado Springs, Southbound Nevada Ave. will temporarily close between Pikes Peak Ave. and Colorado Ave. starting Aug. 1 for up to two weeks in order to do some water line work for the AdAmAn and Alley project. The sidewalks will also be closed until further notice.

However, Northbound Nevada Ave. is staying open. The westbound lane on Colorado Ave. between Nevada Ave. and Tejon Street will continue to stay closed while the city works on the AdAmAn and Alley project.

According to a civil engineer for Colorado Springs, Ryan Phipps, 600 linear feet of the alley have utilities that are over 100 years old. The city has decided to upgrade them and put in new pavement. The surface will be rebuilt, hoping to support more pedestrian accessibility.

"We only have 20 feet between buildings, so it's really challenging to get in and do the actual utility work," Phipps said. "But then, to achieve kind of the vision, the goals that were set for us by the entire project team. It's been really fun, and see how everybody has come together and collaborated on this work,"

Phipps told KRDO that once the city and Colorado Springs Utilities finish construction, the Colorado Springs Downtown Partnership, along with private property owners, will put in public art and other aesthetic improvements. He says it will be a more inviting place for people to gather.

According to officials with the project, the plan for the entire AdAmAn and Alley project is scheduled to be finished later this year. They estimate it will be finished around the end of October.
