COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pikes Peak Roller Derby is back in action after a two-year hiatus due to COVID.

The non-profit sports organization has been around for 17-years and is Colorado Springs' only women's flat track roller derby league.

The organization welcomes athletes of all skill levels and says they focus on discovering women's strengths, overcoming weaknesses, and challenging themselves, both on and off the track.

"I think that roller derby, it's a way for folks that maybe haven't been involved in traditional sports or maybe you have, but it offers a wide variety of folks right now. You don't have to have any background in skating. It's very DIY and I love that about it," Cherri Springer said.

The organization is hosting a recruiting event on Sunday, July 31 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Hillside Community Center. There are also opportunities to become a referee, non-skating official, or a volunteer.
