Fountain Police Department Explorers excel at Colorado law enforcement competition
GUNNISON, Colo. (KRDO) -- Members of the Fountain Police Department placed high in a state-wide competition that tested their police knowledge and abilities.
This past week, the FPD Explorers traveled to the Western Slope to compete in the Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado.
The competition includes agencies from across the state, one from Texas, and one from Arizona. The Explorers were broken down into four, 28-person teams. They worked together in scenarios that included domestic violence, high-risk stop, cell searches, hostage negotiations, and an active shooter/officer down scenario.
The Fountain Police Department said the Explorers trained all year for the competition and the training paid off.
Fountain Police Department Explorers placed first in two of the seven competitions and placed in the top five in every competition.

- Hostage Negotiations: 3rd place - Commander Trynity Hummel, 4th place - Explorer Ariauna Mahers
- Unknown Trouble (Disturbance in a park): 1st place - Explorer Kiley Ross, 5th place - Explorer Sgt. Madison Given
- High Risk Stop: 4th place - Commander Trynity Hummel, 5th place - Explorer Kiley Ross
- Cell Searches: 1st place - Explorer Elise Hanley, 2nd place - Explorer Kiley Ross, 5th place - Commander Trynity Hummel
- Suspicious (suspect breaking into a car): 1st place - Commander Trynity Hummel, 3rd place - Explorer Sgt. Aelyn Hosterman
- Domestic Violence: 1st place - Commander Trynity, 3rd place - Explorer Sgt. Madison Given
- Welfare Check (Drunk parent with little kids at home): 4th place - Explorer Sgt. Mia Madrid, 5th place Explorer Logan Dail
- Honorable Mentions: 5th place - Explorer Sgt. Madison Given in the girls' obstacle course, 1st place - Explorer Sgt. Mia Madrid in the LEEPAAC Scholarship for $2,000
