New commander takes over U.S. Army Garrison- Fort Carson

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- The U.S. Army Garrison- Fort Carson has a new commander.

On Tuesday morning, a change of command ceremony was held. Col. Nate Springer is retiring.

He was the commander for Garrison- Fort Carson for the past two years and served in the military for 24 years. Springer will now become the President and CEO of Care and Share Food Bank.

Col. Sean Brown is now taking over the position. Brown most recently served as the Command Inspector General for the Iowa National Guard based at Camp Dodge, Iowa. Before that, he served as a brigade staff officer, battalion operations officer, and later as a battalion executive officer for 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry. While with the 502nd Inf., Brown deployed to Afghanistan twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF X and OEF XI). Upon returning from the last deployment, he served as the Chief of Operations for the 101st Airborne Division.

Garrison commanders and their teams support soldiers and their families but are also responsible for things like deploying forces, managing training areas, and supporting the local community.

"For the past 23 years I've been on the receiving end of that support of the garrison teams, and now it’s finally my turn to give back a little bit to the army soldiers and families that have given so much to me and my family. I'm really excited about this opportunity to lead the Fort Carson Garrison team," said Brown.
