Celebrating Omo’s first birthday at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Omo - the first hippo to be born at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in 32 years - is celebrating a big milestone: his first birthday!

Zoo officials are gearing up for a public celebration for the Nile Hippo on Wednesday, July 20. It was that date in 2021 that Omo was born to Zambezi at Waters Edge: Africa at the zoo. Omo recently weighed in at 500 pounds!

On Wednesday, the public is invited to come to the zoo, where they can make birthday cards for Omo, take in a talk with hippo experts, and watch as the birthday boy is presented with a cake. The event begins at 10 a.m. Advance daytime admission e-tickets are required to attend the festivities. Pricing information for members and non-members may be found here.
