A Canon City parent thanks the Police Department for spending extra time in schools

CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Canon City parent wrote a letter to the police department after officers spent extra time in schools following the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

The mother wrote that she would have seriously questioned whether she could even take her kids to school if the officers weren't going to be there.

In the letter, she says quote, "your presence outside their school broke my heart but also gave me the confidence to be able to leave them there."    

The police department says her letter served as another reminder of why they do what they do.
