The Place holds annual Off the Street Breakfast
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On Thursday morning, The Place, a Colorado Springs non-profit, held its annual fundraiser to educate the community on the issue of homeless youth in our community.
The Off the Street Breakfast is held under the Colorado Avenue bridge because it's a likely spot where homeless youth spend the night.
On average 350 youth are homeless every night with 175 of them unsheltered.
"People are usually surprised and they’re surprised at the numbers. Colorado Springs is not Los Angeles or New York, it’s a pretty good-sized town but we're still not that big and we still have an issue to work with here and be able to address the issue of youth homelessness," said Andy Petersen with The Place.
The Off the Street breakfast is The Places' largest fundraiser. The funds go to the case managers and direct care for kids that are homeless in Colorado Springs.
"We could buy certain things or whatever, but it’s really that one-on-one experience that the youth have with our case management," said Petersen.
The goal this year is to raise $241,000.
