Two women and two dogs pulled from Lake Pueblo safely thanks to life jackets

CPW

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife credit Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) for keeping two women and their dogs safe when they had to be rescued from Lake Pueblo.

Monday, CPW Rangers Joe Portteus and Jasmine Wolcott responded to a call for help at Lake Pueblo State Park.

Witnesses say that two women on paddleboards, each carrying a dog, had been blown about 250 yards offshore and were struggling to return to safety. One woman was in the water and unable to get back on her board.

Rangers Wolcott and Portteus reached them in a CPW patrol boat and were able to pull them to safety.

Since both women and the dogs were wearing life jackets, CPW says the rangers were able to rescue everyone and return them to shore safely.

CPW says that the water in the area was over 100 feet deep and the temperature was 75 degrees.

According to CPW, there have been 22 drownings in Colorado so far this year. The most recent death on Colorado's waters happened Saturday at Lake Pueblo.

The Pueblo County Coroner has yet to determine the official cause of death in that incident.
